Meet the Doctors

Dr Lydia Benazon MBBS London 1988 DCH RCP DRCOG

Lydia trained at Royal Free Hospital London and graduated in 1988. In 1996 she moved to Bristol and joined The Coronation Road Surgery as it was then called before it was later renamed as the Willow Surgery. She is a partner in the Practice and works part-time. Her usual work days are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Like most General Practitioners, she is interested in all branches of medicine. However she has also developed a special interest in gynaecology, infertility and family planning. She fits contraceptive coils.

Dr Phillip Simons MB ChB Manchester 1992 MRCGP DCH DRCOG

Phillip joined Willow Surgery in 1998. He generally works at the surgery everyday except Tuesday. Philip is also involved in teaching medical students at the practice alongside Dr Bagshaw.

 

Dr Georgina Evans MB ChB Liverpool 1990 MRCGP

Georgina did her medical degree in Liverpool, qualifying in 1990. After various jobs including 18 months at a hospital in Australia, she moved to Bristol in 1993. She completed her GP training here and joined the Willow Surgery as a partner in 1999. She works part time as she has two daughters. Her usual work days are Monday and Thursday. She has always had an interest in sexual health, and fits both coils and contraceptive implants. Together with Dr Richmond, Georgina also helps supervise the training of GP Registrars at the practice. 

Dr Peter Bagshaw MB ChB Birmingham 1977

Peter joined the Willow Surgery in 2004. His main clinical interests include orthopaedics (joint conditions) and cardiovascular disease. He has a strong belief in always taking an holistic approach to patient health. Peter has long experience in medical education with the University of Bristol and here at the practice teaches medical students together with Dr Simons. In 2011 Peter was appointed as a Clinical Lead for the South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group. This new role overseeing the work of other GP practices across South Gloucestershire means that he now works at the Willow Surgery two days a week, usually on Wednesdays and Fridays. He has a black belt in karate.

Dr Hannah Richmond MBBS Nottingham 1998 MRCGP DRCOG DFFP

Hannah joined the Willow Surgery in 2003. She has an interest in palliative medicine (treatment to relieve symptoms rather than cure) and medical education, where she was recently appointed as a GP Educator Fellow for Severn Deanery. Together with Dr Evans, Hannah helps supervise the training of GP Registrars at the practice. She is also involved in providing contraception and sexual health services, including fitting contraceptive implants. Her usual work days at the practice are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Dr Michael Sproat  MBBS London 2001 BSc(Hons) MRCP MRCGP

Having grown up in Liverpool, Michael trained in London before moving to Bristol with his family in 2007. He previously worked in both Southmead and Filton before joining the Willow Surgery in 2011. He enjoys all aspects of General Practice, with a particular interest in Gastroenterology (liver and bowel disorders). Michael also does some joint injections eg knee and shoulder problems. He generally works at the surgery everyday except Wednesday.

 

Dr Kate Pearce BM Southampton 1989 MRCGP

After qualifying, Kate worked in Manchester before going to Sierra Leone with VSO (Voluntary Services Overseas) where she and her husband worked for 2 years in a rural hospital. On her return, Kate completed her GP training in Bristol joining the Willow Surgery in 1999. Kate has an interest in contaception and sexual health, including fitting coils. She usually works on Wednesday and Friday.

 

Dr Felix Gutierrez MBBS Lima 1987

Felix joined the Willow Surgery in 2004. Before training as a GP, he worked in many surgical specialities and has a great deal of experience in these areas. His interests reflect this. They are men's health, minor surgery, skin problems and cryotherapy (using a very cold spray to treat warts). He currently works every day except Friday.

 

Dr Javier Montero LMS Granada 1993

Javier qualified as a doctor in Spain. After experience in Obstetrics he trained to become a GP in Warwickshire, England. He joined the Willow Surgery in 2005 where his usual work days are Tuesday and Thursday. Javier also works at another local GP practice on other days of the week. His current interests include minor surgery and Diabetes. He also does joint injections including shoulder, elbow and knee problems.
